Account Balance
Your Account Balance tells you the total funds that are in your account. This figure does not reflect any funds which are at risk in unsettled bets.
Asian Handicap
The Asian Handicap market allows you to bet on certain match results such as 'Home Wins by > 1'. The list of available bets is shown on the left-hand side of the price table.
Available Credit
Available Credit is the amount available for you to bet at any given time. We calculate your Available Credit by subtracting the exposure of any bets you have placed which have not yet been settled, from your Account Balance.
Back
To 'Back' a selection is to place a bet for something to happen, ie. a horse to win a race or a football team to win a match. For example, to back Chelsea would be to place money on them to win the match. If they win, so does your bet.
When you make a selection, such as Chelsea to beat Fenerbache, the Matrix will show you all the outcomes which would mean your bet wins.
Correct Score
When you bet on a Correct Score market you are betting on the actual score-line rather than just the overall result. The point at which the score-line is determined will depend upon the event, and will be specified in Matchbet's Terms and Conditions and Rules.
Decimal Odds
Odds on the Matchbet Exchange are displayed as Decimal Odds; this is why our odds look different from the fractional odds that you might see in a high-street betting shop. Decimal Odds include your stake as part of the total return, so if you bet £10 at odds of 3.0 then your return will be £30. In a traditional bookmakers shop, these odds would be displayed as 2/1, returning to you your winnings of £20 and your stake of £10.
The advantage to using Decimal Odds is that they are simpler to use and allow Matchbet to offer many more prices. You can convert our Decimal Odds to Fractional Odds using our Conversion Chart. (This can either be displayed on the page or can be a link).
Exposure
Exposure represents the amount at risk if all of your unsettled bets lose. In the Place Bet panel you can see the Bet Exposure, which tells you how much you will be risking if you place the specified bet. In the Statement panel you are able to view your Global Exposure, which tells you your total exposure on all unsettled bets. Each time you place a bet your exposure will be adjusted, and your level of exposure will never be allowed to exceed your Available Credit.
Exposure Limit
This is the amount of money you can put at risk at any given time. You can change this limit by contacting us. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information.
Favourite
The favourite is the selection generally believed to be most likely to win an event. The favourite will always have the lowest odds.
Lay
To 'Lay' a selection is to place a bet for something not to happen, ie. for a horse not to win a race. If you were to place a lay bet on Chelsea in a match, your bet would win if they lost or drew the match.
In this instance the Matchbet Matrix will show the results you are betting on as highlighted. Unlike with a back bet, however, the highlighted results will not be the winning outcomes for you; rather the inverse will be true. In this example therefore, where you are laying Chelsea, your winning results are those which are not highlighted as you are effectively betting on Chelsea not to win.
Market
The Market is where you view the odds and place a bet. An event such as a football match may have a number of different markets, including Match Odds and Total Goals. For individual market descriptions please see the relevant term in this Glossary.
Match Result
A Match Result market bet gives the option to back or lay any of the possible outcomes in a match, so win, lose or draw on any player or team.
Matched bet
When the Matchbet Exchange has paired your bet against another bet/series of bets, that bet is matched. Once a bet has been matched it cannot be pulled or amended other than by Matchbet itself.
Partially matched bet
In some instances by the time you submit your bet some or all of it is not available, as a result of the dynamic nature of the Exchange. In addition to this, you may also submit a bet which is deliberately larger than the amount currently available. In these instances the Bets Panel will show you the amount of the bet which has been matched, and the amount which is still open. Any portion of the bet which has not been matched can be amended or pulled as usual.
Settlement
Settlement occurs when Matchbet knows and has confirmed the result of an event. At this point the market will be settled.
Special Bets
Special Bets are defined as bets which are available on non-sports events such as Dancing on Ice or The X-Factor.
Team Scores
When you bet on a Team Scores market you are betting on how many goals a particular team will score in a match.
Total Goals
When you bet on a Total Goals market you are betting on how many goals there will be in a particular match.
Unmatched bet
If all or part of your bet is not matched straightaway the remaining amount will be placed on the Exchange as an offer. You can amend the unmatched parts of this bet at any point until it has been completely matched.
Winner and Winners
The Winner and Winners bets allow you to back or lay any team or player to win a particular event. The difference between the two is that the Winners bet allows you to select any number of participants to win whereas Winner will only allow one selection.
